3 WORDS FOR 2015

Many people have made life changes and set new goals for the New Year. My question for you is, “Are you going to give up?” or “Are you going to stay in the game?” Of course, no one wants to give up or quit. But look at these alarming statistics:

“40% of everyone who set a goal for the New Year will have given up on it by January 31. By the time Valentine’s Day roll around that number will have increased to 75%. Therefore, very few people who set goals for the New Year will still be pursuing them by the summer.”

Well it’s the beginning of January so I want to make sure that you stay on board. To help you endure to the end I want to share with you three important words that will help make 2015 your best year ever! These three words are vital to your success. If you lack any one of them, you will NOT achieve your goals this year. Let’s go through them one-by-one.

1. PERSISTENT – This word by definition means to go on in spite of opposition or interference; continuing for a long period of time or beyond the usual period; to take a stand or to stand firm for a relatively long time. In its simplest term it means “to keep on keeping on.” You can’t accomplish your goals without a plan. And a plan doesn’t do you any good until you put it into action. Are you persistent at executing your plan? Are you still pressing forward? You must be persistent because that’s what helps you maintain. If you take “persistent” away from the equation, you will fail. You’ll quit as soon as trouble comes. Learn how to be persistent.

“For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.” Hebrews 3:14 NLT

2. RESISTANTWe just talked about the benefits of being “persistent” but don’t think that satan is going to give you a free pass because you decided to do something. The devil is not going to roll out the red carpet for you because you decided to achieve your goals. He’s going to try to distract you with challenges, obstacles, afflictions, storms… You must know how to defend yourself. This is where this 2nd word “resistant” comes in. This word means to withstand the force or effect of opposition; to stand up against.

“Resistant” does NOT mean to tolerate or put up with. If you’re saying, “I’m just going to sit here and take it…”, that’s not the same as resisting. “Resist” is an action word. It’s how you respond to the challenges. Resistance is not just sitting there, but it’s what you do to counteract the attacks. In other words, how can you make the devil pay for coming at you? Do what Jesus did. When the devil came at Him, He responded with the Word of God (read Matthew 4:1-11). This weakened the devil’s ammo and caused him to run! You can do the same.

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

3. CONSISTENTToday I want you to start being “persistent” and “resistant”. Persistent is your offense and resistant is your defense. Learn how to do both today! Then you need to repeat the process tomorrow…and the day after that…and the day after that… That’s where this 3rd word comes in, “consistent”. This word means by definition—marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity.

In other words, you need to be persistent and resistant until it becomes normal. You need to do this on a regular basis. Being persistent and resistant should be as common as driving a car or riding a bike. Consistency is the key to the breakthrough. Learn to do the first two steps, then repeat the process daily. By doing so, you will surely accomplish your goals for 2015. Surely, this will be your BEST year ever.
