Article and interview by Ericka Stafford

ES: Hello Ms. Hopes!  First I want to thank you for agreeing to this interview; as I know that you are a busy lady. Can you tell readers a little more about your business, where it’s located, how long have you been in the business, as well as why you opted into your professional field?

Hopes: TyMFitness was founded in 2011, while I pursued my own health and fitness journey which yielded me an incredible 50lb weight loss. TyM considers “The World Is Our Gym.” Many of the personal training sessions are hosted on the client’s private property all over the Metro Detroit area. Group sessions such as Boot camp and Fit camp ( which is a outdoor spin on Boot camp) are currently being hosted at Metro United Karate and Fitness at 16184 Middle belt rd Livonia MI and Fit camp is hosted on the Detroit River walk.

ES: I find it hard for me to stay focused as far as exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle what are some of the ways you keep your clients motivated and on the right track to living and staying healthy?

Hopes: The small changes as well as the ultimate goal!! Are the best ways to keep motivated, we want to keep these in mind at all times? I encourage them to acknowledge where they have come from, appreciate where they are and strive for where they wish to be. It is all about appreciation, trusting the process and developing a love that is much greater for you.

ES: Okay! You train your mind and your body will follow.  I’ve taken notice that you say that a lot explain that statement to us and what it means to you?

Hopes: Train Your Mind, Your Body Will Follow thus TYM. We go only where our minds take us. Our current state has everything to do with our current mentality. We change our mentality; usually towards the positive we change our bodies, our health, our success, and our worlds.

ES: Do you think the reason more black people have health problems is because there lack of exercise?

Hopes: Absolutely! Too many people allow excuses and the fear of hard work to stagnate them from being active and changing their lifestyles. It is hard, it can be scary! But the process and the progress is very much worth it!

ES: Explain your typical class to first time attendees.

Hopes: Constantly Varied, High Intensity, Functional Movements! I am in love with the Cross fit or Cross training techniques and the methods of training. It is derived off the ability to do real work, using how we move in real life! Run/walk/sprint/crawl/jump/squat/pushup. I could keep going. You’ll have to join me for a class to get better insight (wink).  Everything we do in any of my classes is do-able by everyone who visits.

ES: Share one of your success stories with us; regarding how you helped a client convert over and maintain a healthy lifestyle?

Hopes: I’m not sure why this one is hard for me. I feel like I’m playing favorites. I genuinely have a great love for all of my clients because they chose me to help them change their lifestyles. I can’t pick just one! I consider them my team. My team of bad awesome athletes with awesome physiques! In all of my client relationships we create a training schedule and program that best suits them and their goals, we also implement a clean eating meal plan and I help hold them accountable. Clean eating combined with fat burning and muscle building workouts has helped many of my clients achieve success.

ES: How do you feel about the new raves about losing weight if you take this pill or lose five inches off your stomach if you use this body wrap?

Hopes: Excuse my language. It’s B.S! Anything tied to a Fad regarding weight loss doesn’t even deserve recognition. Many times, these companies spend more money on marketing these “fabulous” products that are supposed to give you the body you want in an unrealistic time frame then they do on the actual product itself. Many if not all aren’t even FDA approved and can be harmful to the person and… (wait for it!) may not even aid them in any weight loss at all! Look I can go on and on about how I feel about magic pills and Saran Wrap, but I won’t! I believe in hard work! It strengthens your core, your character and the body you get from it is a complete bonus. It is worth every hour spent training and all the clean eating that you’ve opted to do instead of snacking or consuming junk foods.

We have to stay encouraged and enjoyed this interview article!
Yes, we have to quit making excuses and start with the hard work; moreover, change our way about food and stick to a plan best suited for you. Some say, change the way you eat until you reach your goal but I know in the past after off for 2-3 years, it came back on because I went back to the things I loved. Moderation is one thing but listen to how your body responds to these foods or drinks, and stop because of how it makes you feel afterwards.
