BET Winner Joshua Rogers

The 18 year old winner of BET’s highly successful reality singing competition, Sunday best, has captured the hearts of millions as the “young buck” who took home the crown.

“In a few short months, Joshua Rogers has become a household name to gospel music lovers across the nation. The 18 year old winner of BET’s highly successful reality singing competition, Sunday Best, has captured the hearts of millions as the “young buck” who took home the crown. The Greeleyville, SC native put the small town on the map as he belted out tunes each week for the studio audience, viewers across the country, and gospel music superstars – vocal coach Kim Burrell, judges CeCe Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, and host Kirk Franklin.”

“The gifted young singer confesses his family always encouraged him to sing, but didn’t sugarcoat things either. Rogers says, “My mom tells me all the time, boy you didn’t always sound good …” but Rogers stuck with it and worked diligently on his craft. After graduating from high school,
Joshua Rogers is the first male to win Sunday Best and the youngest person to win the show in all five seasons. He is currently prepping for the November 20th debut release on Music World Gospel.”

The Certain Ones: First off congratulations on winner the title of Sunday Best!  One of the perks was your winning a new car! How is the car riding for you?

Joshua Rogers: The car is doing great! I am actually riding in it right now, on my way home; I am getting ready to perform at a concert tonight.

The Certain Ones: How did your deciding to audition for The BET Reality show Sunday Best come about? You come from a small town, and to go after a big dream requires a made up mind and strong faith.

Joshua Rogers: I’ve been singing all my life and I have done a couple of local competitions. My becoming so comfortable on stage comes from that. I can truly say that God has put me in several platforms and prepare me for what He, uh, had planned for me. So, when I decided to do the show God opened up doors for me and He is still doing it.

The Certain Ones: Where there any doubts or insecurities you had to deal with as far as auditioning for the show?

Joshua Rogers: Right before I did the local competitions; I’ve had some terrible insecurities and I was terribly scared, and I didn’t want to do it (perform) anymore. I am so glad that I did have some friends who definitely supported me.  I did that competition and actually won it. Then my friends suggested that I audition for Sunday Best. Some even suggested American Idol, I just knew that show was not my thing. The line for Sunday Best was very long. A friend of mine asked me “How bad do you want it?”  When you want something really bad, it shouldn’t matter how far you have to go to get it, or how much work you have to do to get there. It is the matter that you want to accomplish that goal. That was the whole thing with me on the show. My having to go through the many challenges, it was still the same of how bad do I want it.

The Certain Ones: There are big talents in small areas. What advice would you offer to those who are aspiring to sing or act?

Joshua Rogers: Sometimes people do get out of their areas and tend to forget where they come from, the people, and the struggles they had to go through. A lot of time is that people from small areas just need to push and need the encouragement, that no matter small the town, if you keep God in what it is your doing, there is no way possible your vision will come to past. Press. Don’t get discouraged about it. Continue to seek God and go for it! I like to tell young people to “seek God first and all His righteousness.”

The Certain Ones: What was that moment like when performing before The Judges on BET Sunday Best. Pastor Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans, and Yolanda Adams and millions of viewers?

Joshua Rogers: Originally it was nervousness.  Then it was the thing of remembering my songs to be performed. I did have some hiccups. But, my number one goal was to be in the right performance of the Lord.  I am still with the foundation of giving God all the glory.

The Certain Ones: What on the Horizon for you?

Joshua Rogers: On December 4th, my album is coming out.  And I am looking for to this album and just blessing people.
