October is  Month. Breast Cancer survivor Shondia Mcfadden-Sabari, stops in on The Certain Ones Talk Show to share her inspirational testimony. Many have read Shondia’s story in Essence Magazine. This opportunity has offered her to touch the hearts of women all over the world.  Bold and Breastless is her platform. Women are beautiful not just on the outside but the inside. Enjoy our interview below.

The Certain Ones:  Walk us through your journey of diagnoses of breast cancer. Did you know something was going on inside of your body?

Shondia Mcfadden-Sabari: “No not at all. I just had a thought that day, that I needed to go and get a mammogram. I had no discomfort. Not lumps and no discharge. I was diagnosed with breast cancer two days before Christmas 2010. As a 36-year-old married, devoted mother of two, the news was devastating and shocking to all of us.

The Certain Ones: What was a defining moment in that chilling episode in your life?

Shondia Mcfadden-Sabari: My family and I made reservation at a hotel that was closest to the hospital; where I was going to have my surgery.  Later that day; I told my husband to take the kids out for awhile, so I could be alone. I remember just crying. I could feel my grandmother’s voice saying ‘Stop all that crying. Everything is going to be ok.’ I called my husband asking him to come back.  That night I had one of the best sleeps ever!  That moment, I was forced to trust God. The next morning, I was dressed to kill. I told the staff I didn’t want to be carried into the OR, I wanted to walk.  I remember waking up asking my husband, if I was ok? He said, yes, and that all the cancer was removed.”

“I had a bilateral mastectomy on February 11, 2011 and I decided not to do reconstructive surgery or wear breast forms. Diagnosed at the age of 36, I am so blessed! I’m confident and very proud of myself, that I’m bold enough to show other women, that if they get a Mastectomy, its okay to buy more breasts or wear prosthesis, but its also okay if you don’t do any of that.”
