Do we have a sense of direction?

Article by Adrienna Turner

There are many of us searching for direction in our careers, families, education, and even our personal lives. We have so many decisions to make, whether right or wrong. In a controversial world, we always have something to agree and disagree with based on our taste, likings, and even background traits. We are searching for the “next best thing” such as next top singer, top model, top designer, and even top business-entrepreneur on all these reality shows. Even inventions are created on the basis of complaints. Therefore, when we look at our lives, what is the foundation of it all? What is the basis for our decisions and purpose as a whole?

The true foundation is the Word of God, who created and where our origin comes from (See Genesis 1). We are to learn more about our Creator by reading, studying, and meditating on the Word of God—that was inspired by His Holy Spirit. Then, we have to dig deep within our soul to discover our spiritual abilities, talents, and God-given gifts. We see a ‘lost generation’ that is seeking for direction on this life journey. Seeking for a sense of direction through best-selling books like “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne and “Purpose Driven” by Rick Warren to name a couple, hoping to find their future in these books, audio tapes, and DVDs. We need to step up to the plate with our spiritual gifts and find ways to encourage, edify, and help others. We can give spiritual or inspirational affirmations. Everyone is searching for direction but if they see the Christ in you, this can help them find God too. In reverse, when our minds gravitate to negativity, we will follow and view things that have a negative influence. Moreover, we cling to the negative over the positive.

We have to search for our destiny. God has a purpose for each one of us. God will never give you more than you can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13). He also will never give you what He assigned or gave someone else—it is for you only. It’s time to do your assignment and fulfill your purpose. He is not a respecter of people and loves us all equally and will provide according to His will (See 1 John 5:14-15). Therefore, we need to seek His will and we’ll see all that we are qualified to do while we serve our merciful Creator YHWH (Yahweh). Once we submit to His will, see all the lives we will have an influence upon and make disciples of Jesus Christ.

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19, New Living Translation).

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure” (1 Corinthians 10:13, New Living Translation).

“And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for” (1 John 5:14-15, New Living Translation).
