DON’T LET GO

Article by Billie Miller

Put God’s Word to the test and experience His glory. Once you’ve tasted and experienced God, you’ll want more of Him. You’ll develop the passion inside of your heart for His Word. You’ll desire a better life. You’ll crave results. You’ll have a strong desire to get what’s rightfully yours. It’s going to be up to you to keep that fire burning. It’s up to you to stay fixed on Him. How do you develop and increase this passion?

“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”  Colossians 3:2

The Scripture says to “set” your mind. The word “set” is something that God tells you to do. This is something that you’re in control of. This is done intentionally and purposefully. The word “set” means firmly fixed in place; not subject to change; immovable. Set or fix your mind on things above. In other words, set your mind on the Word of God. Do not set your mind on the earth or this world’s system. In order to develop and increase this passion, you must remain focused on the Word. Don’t let the world distract you! Don’t focus on your bills. Don’t focus on your bad health. Don’t focus on your bad relationships. Don’t focus on what you see. Focus on God and His promises. Because what you see in the world is not necessarily your life. What you see in the Word is your life. That’s why God tells you to set your mind on godly things. He tells us in the next verse of Colossians why He wants us to set our minds on the Word.

“For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God…Christ who is our life…” Colossians 3:3 & 4

The reason that you should set your mind on the Word is because your life is hidden in there. The Word is your life. Is that a good enough reason for you? It should be. God is saying that you should be passionate about the Word because it’s your life. You should be in pursuit of the Word because it’s your life. This is your life that we’re talking about.

“Take firm hold of instruction (the Word), do not let go; keep her, for she is your life.”  Proverbs 4:13

You have to take firm hold of the Word of God. You have to cling to the promises. You have to be glued to the Word and never let go of it. Regardless of what goes on in your life, you have to keep the Word and don’t let go.

·         People talking about you? Don’t let that Word go.

·         Having financial problems? Don’t let that Word go.

·         There’s sickness in your body? Don’t let that Word go.

·         Your spouse isn’t acting right? Don’t let that Word go.

Why? The Scripture gives us the reason—the Word is your life.

This Word is all you’ve got. This Word is all you have. This Word is your everything, so you can’t give up on it. If you give up on the Word, then you give up on life.

“My son, pay attention to what I say. Listen closely to my words. Don’t let them out of your sight. Keep them in your heart. They (the Word) are life to those who find them…”  Proverbs 4:20-22 NIRV

The above Scripture tells us to stay focused on the Word because it’s our life. Don’t lose sight and get distracted. Keep the Word in your heart and never let it go, because it’s your life. I don’t care if you get evicted. You better have that Word with you. I don’t care if your spouse leaves you, don’t leave the Word. I don’t care if you’re in the hospital with tubes stuck in you, you better be connected to the Word.

“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life…”  Deut. 30:19-20

Hold on to God for He is your life. How many times do you need to see it? How many Scriptures will it take to convince you? God wants you to stick with Him, because He’s your life. When people ask you, “Why do you read the Bible so much?” or “Why are you always talking about Jesus?” or “Why is the Bible so important to you?”  You answer them proudly, “The Word is my life!”
