Fly Butterfly, Fly!

Article by Jamesina Greene

Thou wilt shew me the path of life:  in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures forever more.”  Psalm 16:11

“One day a small opening appeared on a cocoon.  A man sat and watched for the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole.  Then it seemed to stop making progress.  It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and could go no further.  So the man decided to help the butterfly.  He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon.  The butterfly then emerged easily, but it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.  The butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings.  It was never able to fly!  What the man did not understand was that the restricting cocoon, the fluid inside of it and the struggle required for the butterfly to push through the tiny opening were a part of God’s divine plan.  Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives.  If God allowed us to go through life without struggles, just like that butterfly, it would cripple us.  We would not be as strong as we could have been.  We could never fly!”  ~ Author Unknown

My father, the late Apostle James F. Greene, used to say, “Change ain’t change ‘til you Change”.  You cannot become the butterfly you were predestined to be if you are stuck being a caterpillar.  The life Journey involves various stages and processes, all of which are imperative to your development.  We MUST continue through the process.

Spring is here!  Change is evident on a daily basis.  As we look around we see trees which were once barren, now growing leaves and bearing fruit.  We see a beautiful array of flowers blossoming and providing stimulating fragrances.  The very air we inhale rejuvenates and refreshes us.  It is imperative that we embrace this Season and learn the lessons and experience the joy that it brings.

God makes clear to us the path that we should journey on.  Obedience to His direction fills us with joy.  In addition to that, as we walk in obedience we experience manifold blessings from His giving hands.  Yes there will be times of sadness and distress as we journey, however, we must not lose our faith.  God has guided and sustained us to THIS place, and He will continue.

Each Season of your life provides a level of testing for you.  Great faith will be greatly tested.  Your foundational beliefs must be solid and intact on your Journey.  How you respond during your testing or “cocoon” season determines how you continue on your Journey.  Growth often comes with discomfort.  Will you stand the test and endure the necessary changes?  Will you submerge wounded, damaged and unable to fly?  Will you walk out the rest of your Journey crippled and emotionally, physically and spiritually disabled?  The choice is up to you.

I choose to endure the process.  I choose to humbly submit to God’s plan and purpose for my life.  I choose to maintain my faith in hope in the knowledge that there are greater days ahead of me.  I choose to walk in my new identity.  Standing on His promises enables us not to fall into despair.  I rejoice in the security of knowing that God’s got it all in control.  I am no longer a caterpillar, but I am a beautiful butterfly.  What about you?

Every situation in our lives serves to carry us further on our Journey.  Each step gets us closer to our destiny and serves to show forth God’s glory in our lives.  Never give up my friend!  Minimize the amount of time you spend looking backward and stay focused on the prize that is ahead of you.  The destination is well worth the Journey!

The world awaits the greatness that lies within you, yes you Beautiful Butterfly!
