FORGETTING JESUS: There’s No Christmas Without Christ

ForgettingJesusPicture

Jesus is the reason for the season. I know you may be saying, “Oh, I’ve heard that before…” I know it may sound cliché to you, but there’s so much truth in that statement. Jesus is the “reason” for the season. There’s an old saying that says, “If you don’t know the purpose of a thing, you will abuse it.” That’s what I believe happened with Christmas. People have forgotten the purpose of this holiday. They don’t remember the reason for the season. So as a result, they’ve abused Christmas and reduced it to a meaningless holiday. So instead of celebrating the One who canceled all of their debts, they ignore Him and go deep into debt. They focus more on the gift exchange than the Gift of God.

Now I’m not saying you can’t put up a Christmas tree or exchange gifts, but I am saying don’t take “Christ” out of Christmas. That’s what the world is trying to do. Many organizations and businesses have already compromised. If you listen to the world, you’ll hear them say, “Don’t say ‘Christmas’, but instead say ‘holiday’. We don’t want to offend anyone.” The world is so careful about making sure that no one gets offended…except Christians. The world wants you to forget about Jesus. Don’t allow that to happen! Always remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.

Forgetting Jesus is one of the main reasons people feel lonely during the holidays. Rather than focusing on Him, they focus on family, friends, and exchanging gifts. Don’t misunderstand me, I believe the holidays should be spent with the people you care about, however let’s put more focus on Jesus. This time of the year is sometimes hard for those who are single, divorced, or have lost a loved one, but it’s remembering Jesus that will help them to overcome.

“Others may abandon you, divorce you, and ignore you, but God will Love you. Always. No matter what. It’s a Love worth giving to you at Christmas.”

~ Max Lucado

Forgetting Jesus is why many people feel undervalued during the holidays. You can’t determine your value by the gifts you receive, because if you don’t get anything you’ll feel worthless. But when you remember Jesus during the holidays, you won’t worry about the gifts you received from people. You’ll be celebrating the Gift you already received from God.

“Every good action and every perfect gift is from God. These good gifts come down from the Creator of the sun, moon, and stars, Who does not change like their shifting shadows.

God decided to give us Life through the Word of Truth so we might be the most important of all the things He made.”

James 1:17-18 NCV

The world can forget about Jesus, but you better not. This Christmas, let’s celebrate Jesus! Let’s celebrate by honoring what He’s done for us. Put up the tree, exchange gifts, spend time with family…but don’t forget Jesus! Put Him first this season. Let’s celebrate God’s Gift to us.
