How To Avoid The Singles Holiday Blues

Christmas and Thanksgiving the two biggest holidays of the year. A time of friends, family, gifts and food. But if you single (not married) this time of the year can be kind of tough when you don’t have that boyfriend or girlfriend to take pictures with and cuddle like everyone else (I know you get tired of taking pictures with that one drunk uncle who tell you how good God is LOL). However, singlesI wrote this blog with you in mind and how to avoid the “Singles holiday blues” syndrome.

Be grateful for friends and family

Why should a living man complain -Lam 3:39

I know it sounds cliche but take a second and look around: see the joy on others face from grandma all the way down to the grandchildren. Take your mind off yourself for a moment and have an attitude of gratitude. God woke you up this morning, do you know how many people didn’t wake up to see today?

Spend time with a married couple

That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children -Titus 2:4

You plan on marrying one day right? Why not get around a married couple who you admire and you can trust? Don’t spend time being upset because you not married yet, learn from a married couple. I’m sure they will be glad to pour some Godly into your life. Be willing to learn and know your day will come soon.

Learn how to serve and assist during this time of the season

Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle. Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality -Rom 12:10-13 Message Bible

Can you cook? Help with the food because one day you will be cooking for your own family. Help clean the house because friends and family are coming over. Those around you will be thankful because of your unselfish attitude. God will honor you for serving and making the place hospitable.

Finally: Don’t “hook up” with a friend of the opposite sex for the sake of having a date for the holidays. Singles get weak during this time because all the love in the air from husbands and wives, food, fellowship and memories. This can end up in the bedroom at the end of the night simply because of the quality time spent from such a loving environment.
