Keeping up with the Cardigans!

Keeping up with the cardigans.  Well it’s the officially fall! Yay!  With the passage of time there comes changes. This season it’s all about the staying warm and looking good at the same time.

It’s all about the cardigan. What’s a cardigan? Here is a small and detail definition: A cardigan is a type of knitted vestment that has an open front.   This is a longer version for those history lovers out there!

According to Cardigan New York: Cardigans—made famous by Major General James Thomas Brudenell, AKA the 7th Earl of Cardigan—were originally worn as his battle vestments. In the mid 19th Century, the Major’s infamous battle was recorded by Alfred Lord Tennyson in “The Charge of the Light Brigade.” Although the Major wore his cardigans with sartorial splendor (also trimmed with fur and braids), cardigans originally were popular in the 17th Century with French and British fishermen. Knit from coarser materials such as pure wool, they kept sailors and dockworkers warm while navigating rough Northern Atlantic seas.

By the 1900s, cardigans evolved into the mainstream at Harvard University when the baseball team personalized its jerseys—then later wool cardigans—giving birth to the Letterman Sweater. The cardigan has transformed from its purely sartorial image to suit the more relaxed lifestyle of the 21st Century.

Now that our history lesson is out of the way. Enjoy the tutorial below on how to wear successfully wear your cardigans.
