TAKE OFF THE MASK!

TakeOffMASK

“But don’t just listen to God’s Word.

You must do what it says.

Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”

James 1:22 NLT

Halloween is long gone, but there are some people who are still walking around wearing masks. Who are these people? Christians – not all of them, but a lot of them. Many Christians come to church wearing a Christian mask. In other words, they only show you what they want you to see. They’ve perfected pretending and mastered phoniness.

They know how to play the church part – they raise their hands in the air to praise Him; they cry; they fall out; they shout… From the outside it looks like they’re real spiritual. From other people’s point of view, it appears they have it all together. And you know what? They may have their family and friends fooled.

They may have their coworkers and neighbors fooled. They may even have the pastor fooled. But according to the above Scripture, they’re only fooling themselves. You may trick others but you can’t trick God. You may impress others, but God is not impressed. You can fool some people some of the time, but you can’t fool God anytime.

“To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.” Proverbs 21:3

As the righteousness of God, you must get into action. The house that’s built on the rock and the house that’s built on the sand appear the same on the outside. But you’ll soon learn the difference when the storm hits. The truth will come out when the challenges come. When trouble arrives, we’ll know if you’ve been doing the Word or just pretending. Someone once told me, “We’ll see how much you’ve trained on game day.”

You can take an orange, paint it red, and call it an apple. You can trick people for a while. But if you apply pressure to it, what’s really inside is going to come out. So what do you have inside of you? Are you just into God when you’re at church? Do you just say, “Thank You Jesus” when you’re around other Christians?

Do you only open your Bible on Sunday mornings and occasional Bible studies? Do you only pray during church service? Do you ever praise God when you’re at home? There’s no need of pretending or faking. Pretending costs and you can’t afford it. There’s no need for it, because the truth will come out.

“But if you just use my Words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a dumb carpenter who built a house but skipped the foundation. When the swollen river came crashing in, it collapsed like a house of cards. It was a total loss.” Luke 6:49 MSG

Take a married couple for example. In public they look like a happy family. They play a good role when company’s around. They put up a good front. But behind closed doors they refuse to obey God’s Word concerning marriage. They’ve neglected to study on family.

When the storms and troubles come, they won’t have anything to stand on. The challenges will destroy their marriage. They can pretend all they want, but they can’t hide a divorce. Everybody that they fooled will know about it. People will be shocked, but they’re going to find out. So stop pretending and start doing the Word.

“Why are you so polite with me, saying ‘Yes, sir,’ and ‘That’s right, sir,’ but never doing a thing I tell you?” Luke 6:46 MSG

Why say He’s your Father, if you’re not going to obey Him? Why say He’s your Master if you’re not doing what He says? Why sign up for a course if you’re not going to listen to the instructor?

“If you know these things, blessed and happy to be envied are you if you practice them [if you act accordingly and really do them].” John 13:17 AMP

What good is a cake recipe if you’re never going to bake it? What good is a diet if you never put it to use? It’s not solely the knowledge that’s going to change your life. It’s the applied knowledge that’s going to create the change.
