The Cookie Cutter Marriage… No Thank You!

Oh, life would be so simple if wives and husbands had scripts. If I had the book of his evolution and he had the book of my evolution, we’d know exactly what to do, how to do it and when to do it. Everything would be perfect, right? Wrong! This type of utopian marriage would lend very limited room for growth and development, conflict and resolution, break up and make up, struggles and triumphs… and all of the delicious ingredients that mix and blend the appropriate amount of concern, compassion, passion, trust and understanding necessary for a marriage to sustain.

     While it is easy to say they have the perfect marriage, their marriage is flawless and I want my marriage to be just like theirs, it is more important for you and your spouse to Create Your Own LOVE. By the time you factor in careers, salaries, professional goals, financial obligations, personal enrichment, living arrangements, sex drives, love languages, communication styles, families, children, pets, domestic expectations, individual aesthetic tastes and real life, it is literally impossible to duplicate “That Marriage.” Understand and accept that what works for one couple becomes total chaos for another. When it comes to happily ever after and ‘til death do we part, there is no one size fits all. Simply put, my marriage can’t be like your marriage… and that’s perfectly alright!
