What Will You Have in 2014?

Article by Afi Pittman

Ecclesiastes 4:9 – 10, NLT “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

If 2013 was NOT the year that your “Boaz” found you…don’t be discouraged. Some good things just take longer to happen than others. But if you are discouraged, I want to share something with you. You see, prior to this year – although I had some major breakthroughs in my singles walk – my commitment to live fully and in contentment was not completely solidified. I went through some things that I had to overcome and view from the other side before I could witness to anyone else that God truly can do anything. Now that I’m on the other side of it, I can tell you with full confidence that God is beyond our limits. My time for marriage has not come yet, but I stand in faith that God can do what He says He will do.

For so many of us singles, we believe God is who He says He is and that He can do what He says He can do…except when it comes to our love lives. We take matters into our own hands sometimes. Other times we rejoice with our brothers and sisters who report that they’re on their way to marriage and are doing it God’s way, but we secretly wonder if God can do the same thing for us. If this is you, I want to challenge you this year to let that fear go. Let it go so that you can become one of many believers who received a good thing from God despite the odds. To start you on this challenge, let’s take a look at some of the miracles of romance, marriage and family that God orchestrated in the Bible.

Sarah was FAR past childbearing years when an angel of the Lord told her she’d bear a son. Even though the angel rebuked her for laughing he told her and she messed up and took matters into her own hands when the promise took too long, God still fulfilled the promise. The Hebrew midwives who refused to kill the male babies after Pharaoh gave the order to do so were blessed with families of their own because of their faithfulness to God. Hosea chased after Gomer with unconditional love despite the times she went back to her old ways. Ruth was completely destitute when Boaz found her working in his field. And you all know the rest…they got married and had a baby!

I’ll stop there for now, but there are more. And although we won’t be mentioned in the Bible, let’s answer the call of God by daring to believe that He is the best matchmaker. Let’s stop putting limits on what God can do by taking the affairs of our love lives out of our hands and putting them back into His. Now, I can’t predict when or if you’ll get married. I just truly believe in my heart that God wants to give us this good thing called marriage. BUT there is some (and for some of us a lot) of preparation involved so that we can have this good thing in the way He wants us to have it. If you’re willing to do the work and leave that desire before God…beloveds, there’s NOTHING He CAN’T do!

So what will it be for you in 2014? If you’re ready for the challenge and you’re ready to really see what God can do, come back to the Certain Ones Magazines for singles encouragement with Vanessa Richardson. And I’d be more than happy to help you out too! We’re part of a community of believers that God is knitting together to help spread the truth about His love, blessings, and salvation. And we’d love to have you be a part.

Until the next time, stay encouraged and don’t give up hope that God can “do it for you”!
